The iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (CSP1) is an Ireland-domiciled equity ETF managed by BlackRock through its iShares platform. CSP1 is the ticker for the fund's GBP trading line on the London Stock Exchange.
The fund seeks to track the S&P 500 Index, a benchmark comprising 500 large U.S. companies and widely used as a reference for the U.S. equity market.
The S&P 500 comprises large-cap U.S. companies and uses a free float-adjusted market-capitalization-weighted methodology. As a result, companies with larger market values available for public trading receive greater weights in the index.
Benchmark constituents are selected according to criteria established by S&P Dow Jones Indices, including requirements related to market capitalization, liquidity, and representation of the U.S. equity market.
Composition / Exposure Profile
CSP1 holds companies across different segments of the U.S. economy, including:
Information technology.
Financials.
Health care.
Consumer discretionary.
Communication services.
Industrials.
Consumer staples.
Energy.
Utilities.
Materials.
The index includes major companies across technology, financial services, health care, industrials, consumer industries, and other important areas of the U.S. economy.
Although the index comprises U.S. companies, many of its constituents have international operations and generate revenue across different regions. Their performance can therefore also be influenced by economic and market conditions outside the United States.
Because the S&P 500 is weighted by market capitalization, its largest companies can represent a significant portion of the portfolio. Allocations across individual companies and sectors change over time as their market values evolve.
Structure and Costs
The fund and share class have the U.S. dollar as their base currency. On the London Stock Exchange, the accumulating share class trades in GBP under CSP1 and in USD under CSPX. The trading currency does not change the share class's underlying economic exposure or provide currency hedging.
The ETF has a total expense ratio (TER) of 0.07% per year, uses physical replication, and is domiciled in Ireland. It operates as part of iShares VII plc under the UCITS framework.
CSP1 follows an accumulating income policy. Dividends received from portfolio companies are therefore reinvested within the fund rather than periodically distributed to shareholders.
History and Evolution of the ETF
The iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF USD (Acc) was launched in 2010 to provide exposure to large U.S. companies through a passive strategy linked to the S&P 500.
Since its launch, the fund has maintained its S&P 500 tracking strategy through physical replication.
Throughout its history, its performance has reflected U.S. equity-market cycles, including changes in economic conditions, corporate earnings, technological developments, interest rates, and monetary policy.
